Sustainable Energy Materials Lab @HNU

WELCOME TO THE FUTURE OF ENERGY MATERIALS

FROM ATOMS TO SOLUTIONS.

About Us

We are reimagining the building blocks of batteries for a more sustainable future.

We bridge the gap between molecular design and energy storage, turning fundamental chemistry into the materials that will power tomorrow.

Jiande Wang
Professor at College of Materials Science and Engineering, Hunan University

Jiande was born in Shandong, China. He received his B.S. (2009–2013) and M.S. (2013–2016) degrees in Materials Science and Engineering from Hunan University, where he developed a strong interest in energy storage materials. He then moved to Belgium and obtained his Ph.D. from the Université catholique de Louvain (UCLouvain) in 2021, under the supervision of Prof. Alexandru Vlad, focusing on organic cathode materials for electrochemical energy storage.

From 2022 to 2024, he worked as a postdoctoral associate in the Department of Chemistry at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) under the guidance of Prof. Mircea Dincă, where his research centered on conjugated organic materials and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) for lithium-ion conduction and battery applications. In 2025, he joined Hunan University as a Professor. His research group focuses on organic/polymeric functional materials (conjugated polymers, conjugated coordination polymers, MOFs), organic rechargeable batteries (Li-ion, Na-ion, multivalent-ion), and solid-state electrolytes. He has published over 30 peer-reviewed papers including Nature Materials, Nature Energy, JACS, Science Advances, Energy & Environmental Science, Angewandte Chemie, and holds two U.S. patent applications. Outside of his academic pursuits, he enjoys taekwondo, basketball, and working out.
